The Year we Escaped Chicago

For your enjoyment let us take you along on our adventures, but first we’ll tell ya about ourselves.  We are Nick Martinson and Angelina Boulicault, engineers by trade, adventurers at heart.  We live in Chicago, IL, but that’s not where it all began. At the ripe young age of 4 Nick was kicking up dirt racing motocross and Angelina was living wild and free in a Russian orphanage.  By college Nick was backpacking continents, and working on his photography.  Angelina was learning crazy trades like welding to build her own bike, and crocheting to sell hot pads to support our travels.

We met in school at the University of Iowa (go Hawks).  Fresh out of college and ready to tackle the world, we made the move to the big city.  We quickly grew tired of the concrete canyons, and made it our mission to escape as often as possible.  We’re going to start a year long series of how we escaped Chicago taking mini-adventures. We have some stories in the back log from trips we already took.  We’re writing about backpacking, camping, car camping, bouldering, rock climbing, white-water rafting, and any other adventures we stumble across along the way (We’re open to suggestions)!
