Back in Washington after being in the Midwest for the past three weeks. (Read about our initial escape from the Midwest here) It was good to be back in our home towns of St. Louis, Missouri and Bettendorf, Iowa catching up with our families. While we were in Missouri we got to be kids for a day climbing around the City Museum. If you’re ever in St. Louis definitely check this out if you like crawling through man-made caves, sitting in a life-size eagle’s nest, and joining a circus for an afternoon.

Then, in Iowa we got to play with a new Goldendoodle puppy (Nick’s parents’…we wish it was ours)!  Nick lugged his snowboard home,  jamming it into the back seats of tiny Prius’ while the Uber drivers watched skeptically, in the hopes of going snowboarding with his brothers back home, but the lack of snow squashed that dream. And Angelina brought her ice skates in the hopes of skating at the ice rink under the St. Louis Arch, but we went to the Garden Glow instead! Shaw’s Botanical Gardens held a Christmas Light Garden Glow.

After three weeks of sitting around on the couch next to a comfy fire, eating Christmas cookies and deep fried turkeys, this hike put us in our place. It was only about a 4 mile out and back hike with just over 1,600 feet elevation gain, but when we made it to the top our tongues were dragging on the frozen ground! It was well worth it for a great view of sunset over our city and it felt great to lace up the hiking boots.

Poo Point is a paraglider’s playground. At the trail-head there is a landing pad, and numerous signs to look up for a glimpse of paragliders coming in for a landing just over your head. The lookout point at the top is where the paragliders take-off.

We made a last minute decision after work to do a quick hike.  It’s appreciated having this ability being in such close proximity to trails. The Poo Poo Point trailhead is just 20 minutes away from our apartment! Living in the Midwest we would have to drive 6 hours to get to a trail similar to this in elevation, so definitely do not take this luxury for granted.

You 2 never cease to amaze me. No matter where you are, you always find somewhere to hike, places to go and things to do. Good for you both. At City Museum, I wondered if Nick would get stuck in the cove. Never thought he would fit as tall as he is. You on the other hand can fit anywhere. Glad your both making the best of each opportunities around you and all the days. Love to you both.
